He still believes god is real he reveals, however he is mad at him. He thinks it is unfair what is happening to them. He believes no real god would do this. He stopped thanking god because it is not god it is him making the right decisions.

Chapter 1:  What Happened: Jem and Scout wonder upon a young boy, who is four, that offers to read anything of theres. Now obviously this is a little bit weird, but Jem and Scout act as if it is nothing.
